Dementia Awareness Week
Dementia Awareness Week is between the 5th and the 11th July 2010. The Medway Dementia Advisors and the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Family Support team have teamed up with the SOS team, to capture people’s attention in Chatham High Street this Thursday 8th July. The orange SOS bus will be outside the Pentagon near Primark and professionals and volunteers with life experience of caring for people with the disease will be there to share fascinating facts to build knowledge on how to live well with dementia.
There are a range of services which can extend to people, and important information to improve life after diagnosis, however due to lack of awareness many affected people miss out. The objective for the MDA team is to bridge the gaps between broken networks of communication.
There are some fascinating facts about dementia, which the professionals and volunteers will quickly share with you. Although the focus for both teams is on helping people to cope with the catastrophic changes brought by different types of dementia, they also have information for us all. They will build your understanding on common experiences as symptoms or conditions develop and facts on how to help prevent the early onset of dementia.
