Latest update on the radio project

There are two main interlocking branches to our community radio project development, the drive to install the equipment to broadcast on FM and the gradual evolution of processes skills within the team to sustain interesting and relevant content. There are other branches naturally developing as the station is a catalyst to develop new ideas in the community. These developments include: frequent events, workshops, learning projects linking the community with educational establishments and community video.

We nearly have a difinitive site for an antenna. We hope that the agent representing the site will fast-track an assessment and give an all clear to move to the next stage, when Ofcom will provide a frequency.

In July a new staff team was been formed at Sunlight to support the volunteer presenters. Due to the transition from an on-line to an FM station the volunteer team will modifying criteria to select new team members. If you are on the long list of people waiting to join the volunteer radio team, please keep faith that we will do our best to develop ways for you to get involved. Call us at any time and keep listening.

We have asked a consultant with community radio experience to guide us on the essential processes to sustain a successful station. We hope to gain funding to employ a station project manager with appropriate skills.

Background on the community radio proect?

Community radio is all about the community, so if you live in Medway, there are several ways in which you can be involved.  You may be a regular listener, you might be able to become a team volunteer, you could provide content, guest on a show or participate in associated radio activities, such as events or workshops.

Radio Sunlight has been evolving through ideas from local people. We have a great challenge ahead, but the potential benefit for local people makes it more than worth the effort.

For 3 years volunteers at Radio Sunlight have been building regular on-line listeners locally and over the world. We have a diverse range of skills on the team who generate a broad selection of material.

To fulfill the definition of a community station, Radio Sunlight needs to be connected to the local community and develop programmes delivered by and tailored for local listeners. There are a growing list of people who hope to get involved and the list will hopefully continue to grow. The challenge for the volunteer team is sustaining resources to be as inclusive as possible, to keep the interest of listeners and potential participants.
